Doing better with old - A guide for building owners

Renovation using environmentally-friendly building materials

You're thinking of renovating your home and making it more energy-efficient by insulating it. But what's the best way to go about it? What do you need to know and what do you need to look out for to improve your comfort and save energy? What financial assistance is available? You'll find your answer here.

As one of Central Europe's leading manufacturers of environmentally-friendly wood-fibre insulation and systems, we know exactly what's important, and we're happy to share our knowledge with you here. And when it comes to planning and implementing your renovation project, you can rely on our specialist partners - architects, planners and craftsmen throughout France.

Hands on wood:
What can wood fibre, a natural building material, do?

A climate of well-being, soundproofing and reduced heating costs

By properly insulating and sealing your home, you can save up to 50% on your heating bills. And that's not all: because our wood-fibre insulation materials are natureplus-certified, they meet the strictest criteria for ecological renovation, contributing to a healthy, comfortable home - and a better quality of life. Your home is perfectly protected against heat, noise, heat loss, the weather and mould growth.

And the best part: it also increases in value.

Wood. Eco?

It makes sense!

By using wood as an insulating material, you are also using the carbon associated with it as a component of CO2- so if you opt for an ecological building with wood fibre insulation, you are automatically making a contribution to preserving our living space - and, of course, to the architecture that reflects you. See for yourself!

Applications for wood-fibre insulation

Where do you insulate? Practically everywhere: with wood fibre, you can insulate the roof, walls, floors and ceiling - in other words, almost your entire existing building.

In fact, wood fibre insulation can be used in all building applications - except as perimeter insulation (contact with the ground) and as insulation above flat roof waterproofing. If not now, when?

The right time to renovate an old building

Insufficient living comfort, architectural alterations or excessive heating costs - it's high time to insulate!

The right time to insulate is when you are feeling uncomfortable in your own four walls, when you want to extend or reduce your living or working space, or if your energy consumption is too high. In practical terms, this means

  • In summer, it's too hot in the rooms under the roof
  • In winter, the outside walls are too cold from the inside - there may even be a risk of mould.
  • You heat without reaching your comfort temperature
  • Are you planning an extension or conversion that will alter your exterior walls?
  • Your heating costs are too high, because you are probably heating through the window due to inadequate insulation.

CouncilIf you're looking to have your façade repaired and painted, this is a particularly good time to insulate your façade, because you'll be taking these measurements at the same time as you insulate, so you only need to order the scaffolding machine once.

The question of all questions

What building elements do I need to insulate?

After an energy consultancy, you're smarter

The first step is to identify the weak points in your home: where the greatest heat loss occurs and where the need for insulation is greatest? An energy advisor will be happy to help you with this. Is my insulation cost-effective?

Your energy advisor will also be able to determine for you the cost-effectiveness of insulation measures. In principle, you can assume that an old building loses up to 35% of the residential heat produced by uninsulated external walls and up to 20% by an uninsulated roof. Insulating the cellar ceiling or the top floor can also make a big difference, at a relatively low cost - not to mention increasing the value of your home!

How much does it cost to insulate my old building with wood-fibre insulation?

The exact cost of wood-fibre insulation for your existing building depends on a number of factors: What needs to be insulated, for example the roof or the façade? How thick should the insulation be? And what is the nature of your building? How old is it? What is the condition of the roof or façade? Not to mention the fact that the cost of materials and installation varies from region to region.
